A brief history of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) for weight loss
hCG was first identified in the early 20th century by a Viennese gynecologist, Bernard Aschner, MD (1883-1960). Dr. Aschner first isolated and identified hCG in the urine of pregnant women in 1912. hCG was eventually isolated in men as well. It is a hormone that supports the normal development of an egg in a woman's ovary and stimulates the release of the egg during ovulation. In men it influences sperm and testes formation.
Initially it was made available only as an injectible prescription item. Time passed and, in 1987, a liquid oral form of prescription hCG was developed. More recent developments have produced a skin patch, a pill and a lozenge application, all available only by prescription.
Another form of hCG is a homeopathic form, available in both spray and drops. Homeopathy is a system of medical therapeutics founded in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German physician. Homeopathic hCG starts with the actual hormone but then undergoes a series of dilutions so that only an “energy signature” of the original compound is left. Prescriptions and homeopathics are both considered a drug and their production is regulated by the FDA. Advertising and claims are regulated by the FTC.
hCG is thought to work in weight loss by influencing a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus maintains the body’s internal balance or homeostasis. It stimulates or inhibits various functions like heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, thirst, sleep, and appetite and body weight.
The initial work of using hCG in weight loss is credited to Albert Simeons, MD (1900-1970), a specialist in hormones, in the 1950’s. Dr. Simeons first studies led him to claim that low dose hCG injections, coupled with a very low caloric diet (VLCD) helped obese women and boys lose fat rather than lean muscle. One of the problems of lowering caloric intake is the potential loss of muscle mass. Additional work over the years expanded the role of hCG into most classes of patients, male and female.
Because of the success of hCG in weight loss, it was bound to draw the attention of opportunistic hucksters who began to make extravagant claims on the internet about over the counter (OTC) homeopathic hCG and weight loss. In December, 2011, the FDA stepped in and has effectively banned the use of OTC homeopathic hCG. The ban does not include homeopathic hCG provided in a clinicians’ office under that doctor’s supervision nor does it ban the use of injectible, prescription strength hCG.
“Very low calorie diets are sometimes prescribed by health care professionals for people who are moderately to extremely obese as part of medical treatment to lessen health conditions caused by obesity, like high blood pressure. But even then, strict—and constant—medical supervision is needed to ensure that side effects are not life threatening.
Without medical oversight, consumers on very low calorie diets may not be getting enough vitamins, minerals and—most critically—protein,” states Shirley Blakely, Senior Dietician, FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition
Optimum Health backs the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is advising consumers to steer clear of over the counter (OTC) homeopathic human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) weight-loss products. They are sold in the form of oral drops, pellets and sprays and can be found online and insome retail stores.

Optimum Health now offers hCG injectables accompanied by the hCG medically supervised support program, guided nutritional support, and supplementation vital to healthy weight loss. The support provided at Optimum Health is truly the success of the program other practitioners do not offer this support program.
Is hCG right for you?
Studies show the benefits of Optimum Health's medically supervised injectable hCG and program vs. "going-it alone".
- The average female loses 18 - 24 pounds in 32 days.
- The average male loses 24 - 28 pounds in 32 days.
- hCG is reported to reduce hunger and cravings in some individuals following a clinician directed program.
- People report being able to better maintain their weight loss following a clinician directed hCG program.
- People utilizing hCG and who are monitored through Bio Electrical Impedance Analysis such as used at Optimum Health, test as having very little muscle mass loss and the majority of their weight loss is coming from fat loss.
- In a recent survey conducted by the hCG Diet Council, 95% of hCG dieters polled needed additional nutritional supplements during the hCG Diet, in addition to taking hCG.
- Without the guidance of a properly trained and experienced hCG clinician, 65% of hCG dieters polled were frustrated and quit the hCG program and 88% did not know how to properly transition into successful maintenance.
- Internet hCG diet chat groups historically are not supervised or authored by a clinician and consequently give directions and information based on their own personal beliefs and experience and not necessarily based on sound clinical judgment.
- Approximately 95% of hCG dieters polled failed to get the long terms results promised from the internet.
- Dieters, who purchased through the internet, gained some, if not all, of the lost weight back within 4 - 6 months. 9. 99% of hCG dieters polled reported that internet selling sites lack the staff and knowledge of someone trained in nutrition, wellness, and medicine.
hCG injectables not right for you? No problem.
Try our newly revised hc3TM Program Healthy Composition Triple Approach with African Mango - as seen on Dr. Oz!
In light of the new FDA guidelines, Optimum Health offers the new improved hc3 trimTM Active Complex. The new formula contains African Mango extract, which promotes the body's production of leptin hormone as a natural appetite suppressant.
How does it work? Leptin modulates appetite in the brain where it signals satiety. Leptin also helps to utilize fat for energy. African mango extract is an excellent source of fiber and studies show it is effective in lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as aiding in weight loss. It does this by increasing Adiponectin (ad-i-po-nectin), a hormone that may improve glucose and fat metabolism by increasing insulin levels so the body uses more fat for energy; the result is weight loss.
Dr. Oz explained that African Mango acts like a super potent fiber that is good at removing cholesterol from your body.
